Robert De Niro – biography

Legendary Oscar-winning actor Robert De Niro is one of the most prominent people in this industry. He was born in New York City on August 17, 1943. From his early days, he was never into school, and at the age of 16, he left school to study acting with Stella Adler. His parents were known as a golden couple in New York’s art scene. His mother was a gifted painter, she graduated from Berkley University and made a significant name for herself. His father, Robert De Niro senior, was a painter, poet, and sculptor and received great critics for his work. While De Niro’s father stayed devoted to his art, he was primarily raised by his mother.

When he was a child, De Niro often spend time with his dad attending different movie premiers, and he has been particularly fond of Swedish actress Greta Garbo. His mother, Virginia, was working part-time as a typist and copyeditor for Dramatic Workshop which owned Maria Picator. This situation allowed Robert De Niro to attend acting classes for free. When he was 10, De Niro debuted as the Cowardly Lion in famous Wizard of Oz. After this, he was accepted at High School of Music and Art, the most prestigious school of visual and performance art. While attending this school he was under a lot of pressure, he soon gave up and moved to the public school.

In 1960, after he spent months traveling to California to visit relatives, De Niro left high school and started to study acting. During that time, he was attending classes at the Stella Adler Conservatory and taking high school classes at night, but never managed to graduate.


Later, his mother borrowed him the money she saved for his college education and invested in his career. He started studying shortly with Lee Strasberg and then started auditioning.

In 1974, De Niro became an established actor when he played the role of Vito Corleone, in Coppola’s movie The Godfather. This role brought him the most prestigious award in the entertainment industry, the Oscar. Later he played in many movies, but he always took the profound roles that would leave some trace in cinematic history. He played various characters with different psychological profiles and audience recognized his funny side, which earned him the respect from the people around the world. Millions of people enjoyed laughing while he performed stunts.

Al Pacino – early life

Another great movie actor which marked his existence in the movie industry. Famous for his various roles, Al Pacino is one of the biggest artists of our time. He was born in New York City on April 25, 1940, and Pacino was the only child of Sicilian immigrants, who divorced when Al was just two. After his parents have split, his father moved to California and Pacino stayed with his mother and grandparents in the Bronx. From an early year’s Al was interested into acting and later was accepted at the High School of Performing Arts. But, he wasn’t too interested in school and failed almost all classes. At age 17, he dropped out of school.

During that time, he had to work various jobs to survive and chased his dream to become an actor. Al Pacino started studying at the Herbert Berghof Studio and soon got a role in the off-Broadway production. In 1966, he was accepted at the Actors Studios and made a next step towards fulfilling his dreams. Lee Strasberg was his coach, and he worked directly under him. This lead him to work on more significant projects in 1969, mostly in Broadway production. At this point, his acting career is starting to take off, participating in plays and small movies.


But, a new film, The Panic in Needle Park, which hasn’t reach great success in 1971, set his career to a next level. A famous director, Francis Ford Coppola, took interested in him and offered him a role in his movie The Godfather. Even though Coppola had two more candidates for the role of Michael Corleone, Robert Redford, and Jack Nicholson, in the end, he decided to give this role to not very famous Al Pacino. The Godfather was released in 1972 and bought Pacino tremendous success. This movie is one of the classics for all times, and Al went to cinematic history with the role of Michael Corleone. Unfortunately, Al didn’t receive an Academy Award for this role and ended up boycotting the entire event. But, the years which were in front of him, established him as the legend among the actors.

New York personalities and their backgrounds – Silvester Stallone

Silvester Stallone is one of the greatest actors of our time and the most famous star in cinematic history. He was born on July 6, 1946, in New York City and people all over the world probably know him for his role in Rocky movies. This lead him to become the biggest action star in this industry. But, as all successful actors, he had a difficult childhood.

He and his brother Frank were significantly affected by their parents’ turbulent relationship, which later ended in divorce and Stallone spend some of his early years in foster care. When he was five, his father moved the entire family to Washington D.C. He owned there a beauty parlor chain Stallone lived there for years after his parents divorced. During that time, he had a lot of emotional problems, which lead him to be expelled from several schools.

After a few years, he left his father and moved to Philadelphia to live his mother and her second husband. Stallone attended there a special school for troubled youth and started American College in Switzerland. On this college, he studied drama and went to the University of Miami, but never graduated. He left to pursue his career in acting.

While he waited for his career to improve, Stallone had to work all kinds of jobs in order to survive. At the Central Park Zoo, he had to clean lion cages, and at the same time, he took a role in The Party at Kitty and Stud’s, an adult movie. During 70’s, Stallone was struggling with the small roles and made uncredited parts in mainstream movies such as Bananas in 1971, which Woody Allen directed and soon followed the Klute. In 1974, an independent movie The Lords of Flatbush came out, and Stallone was acting together with Henry Winkler and Perry King.

In 1976 Rocky was released and became a huge hit. The film earned 10 Oscar nominees and brought fame to Silvester Stallone. This move has marked his career and made him successful beyond the boundaries. From this time, his career is only growing.

Early beginnings of Tom Cruise

If we told you a name Thomas Cruise Mapother IV, you probably wouldn’t have an idea we are talking about Tom Cruise. He was born on July 3, 1962, in Syracuse New York to Mary and Thomas Mapother. His mother was an amateur actor and school teacher, while his father was an engineer. Because of his father’s career, Tom’s family had to move a lot, and eventually, they divorced when he was 11. Tom and his siblings inherited dyslexia, which caused him significant problems during his growing up. He was great in athletics, so he thought of perusing a career in professional wrestling, but injured knee stopped him at those intentions.

At age 14, Tom enrolled in a Franciscan seminary school with the thought of becoming a priest, but he left a school after a year. Later in his life devotion to church has come out in different forms and Tom became one of the most famous members of Scientology.

tom2When he was 16, a teacher encouraged him to participate in a school musical, Guys and Doll. He found that stage suited him well and he felt like home. At this point, his future path has been formed.

When Tom started acting, he determined a ten-year deadline for himself, where he will try to create a successful career. He Left Syracuse and moved to New York. While struggling through auditions, he landed the first role in 1981 in an Endless Love. At the same time, he was playing in a drama Taps, together with Sean Penn.

His role in Taps was improved after some time when a director of the play saw Tom’s potential. He was outstanding, and his performance caught an eye of critics and filmmakers. In 1983, Tom started working with Francis Ford Coppola on the movie The Outsiders, but the movie wasn’t well received by the audience. Even though The Outsiders haven’t made a huge success in theaters around the U.S., it allowed Tom to get an A-list status.

Three years later, Tom Cruise is already an established actor and when the Top Gun came out. But, this move brought him even bigger success, and it was the film with the highest gross in that years. From there Tom’s career has only been growing up and nowadays, he is one of the most famous actors in the world, well known for action movies.
